Q&A

Here are some questions that we've already been asked:

A student from Lea
Q Where exactly is your sixth form?
A Our Sixth Form is in Steam Mills, Cinderford. GL14 3FF.   If you view the postcode on Google Maps, you'll see a satellite image back in 2018 with the building under construction.

A student from Flaxley
Q What time does the day start?
A Each day starts with tutor at 8:40am. Tutor lasts for around 30 mins  and we talk through study skills, personal development, university applications and careers advice.

A student from Mitcheldean
Q Which schools do students come from?
A Pretty much any secondary school in the area.  Some students (like Cameryn in the virtual tour) didn't attend a local school and has been home-schooled.

A student from Cinderford
Q How many hours are taught per subject per week?
A Students receive 8 hours per subject per fortnight, with 3 allocated supervised study periods per subject.

A student from Lydney
Q Do you use virtual classroom technology?
A Yes, we use the Google platform for virtual learning, and teachers post copies of slides used in lessons and electronic copies of assignments/homeworks.

A parent
Q How are you handling the current covid situation?
A We are keeping as many face-to-face lessons running as possible (keeping everyone safe), but when needed we used the Google platform to host live lessons.  Everyone moving is wearing masks unless in a lesson, and our students have formed their own bubble away from any other users of the college site. Everyone is being vigilant and compliant.

A student from Cinderford
Q I plan to learn to drive. Can driving instructors meet me at the sixth form?
A Yes, we have a number of driving instructors that use the large turning area outside the building as they wait for students to have their lessons.

A student from Mitcheldean
Q If some of my lessons are in Mitcheldean (like Art), how do I get there?
A We run a free minibus back and forth between the two sites every hour.

A student from Coleford
Q How does it work with GlosCol students using the building as well?
A At the moment due to covid, GC is not using the building much so we have it to ourselves, but the way it used to work (and will again soon) is that we share common areas like the sofas, pool tables and eating facilities. GC's classrooms and workshops are all downstairs whereas our Sixth Form is upstairs with our own dedicated classrooms, labs, ICT suites, relaxing areas and study rooms.
